York Eagles Junior Basketball Club started in 2009 with one u13 team playing in Basketball England’s National League. Since then the Club has grown and some of our 2009 u13s have now moved on to University and jobs! At present we offer teams at u12, u13, u14, u15, u16 and u18 with three teams playing in the highly competitive Basketball England National League and travelling to local teams from Leeds and Bradford and at times to trips over the Pennines or to the North East.
Players come from a wide area of North Yorks including players travelling from Harrogate, Pickering and Selby along with our local players. Young people are offered a secure and safe environment with York Eagles Junior Club and York Eagles are the only Club in North Yorkshire awarded the prestigious CLUB MARK AWARD given to Clubs after a rigorous assessment of their ability to keep young people safe and in a supportive environment.
The Head Coach is Dave Smith, a Basketball England Senior Coach with over 35 years of experience from coaching in Primary Schools to Professional B/Ball. The coaches at York Eagles aim to challenge young people to constantly improve and training for the National League players is demanding and tough.
In 2013/14 York Eagles u16s won the North Conference and each year York Eagles are normally play off contenders usually being ranked in the top 16 teams in the country. We normally have more than half our players represent North Yorkshire at u13 level and a number of players attend the Yorkshire Regional Performance Centre.
The Development session on Saturday at York College from 10.15 to 12.15 is a great way to start learning the game and we also offer older players opportunities to become table officials, referees and coaches. We want to develop young people as people first and players second and all our efforts are towards this simple but important aim. Come and join us and see! Players/Parents should complete the Player Information Form.
Our teams range from u12s going up to u18s and we’re always on the look out for new talent.
Our players benefit from working with some of the best trainers in the game today.
We offer all our teams the opportunity to play regularly in highly competitive leagues.
